Running St Nicholas requires a minimum of £1,750 a month. This is to cover such expenses as insurance, electricity, general maintenance and ministerial costs.
St Nicholas has been very well maintained over the years through support from visitors, the village and congregation alike. The community drove a fundraising campaign to sympathetically install a servery and loo at the west end of the church in 2015. This has strengthened the church building’s position at the centre of the village, hosting many events. However, caring for the church constantly incurs costs; for instance: recent overdue internal repainting; works to complete some internal replastering and external grouting; and gutter repainting cost circa £16,000.

After a major fundraising campaign which raised in excess of £100,000, the west end of St Nicholas was remodelled to incorporate a servery and loo on the ground floor with an organ loft and vestry above. The work was carried out in 2015 by local craftsmen, Carter and McArthur. In addition, the font was relocated and the pews are now moveable, allowing for more flexible use of the church.
