ST MARY'S

Uffington

Running St Mary’s requires a minimum of £2,430 a month. This is to cover such expenses as insurance, electricity, general maintenance and ministerial costs.

The fabric of St Mary’s has benefited hugely over the years through grants from the White Horse Show Trust and the Friends of St Mary’s Church. Grants from both have helped keep the church weather-proof, fund the kitchenette and loo, and refurbish the Priest’s Room, which offers the church and others a flexible meeting space. We have recently replaced some of our floodlights to LED lamps using only 10% of the electricity required by the previous bulbs, and plan to update the remaining lamps soon.

Our income is mainly derived from weekly collections at services, planned giving through standing orders, the Gift Aid associated with collections and donations, and fundraising events. Income from fundraising provides a significant but unpredictable amount towards our outgoings.  We are still not raising enough money to meet our costs.

Any help you can offer us either by direct giving or by offering your time and energy to help us fundraise would be hugely appreciated.

How to Give

Parish Giving Scheme

(Preferable for monthly giving)

We have recently introduced the new ‘Parish Giving Scheme’ (PGS) - a simple, centrally-managed way of giving to your church.

We hope this will give us increased financial stability by encouraging regular giving.

You can register to donate online: https://parishgiving.org.uk/register/

Or please do contact us for more information or for a hardcopy of the gift form.

If just 100 families were able to commit £1 a week this would significantly help to keep St Mary’s going into the future.

On-Line Donations

Currently we have no on-line donation facility but if you would like to give to any of our churches please contact us via our contacts page.

Forthcoming Projects

Our recent quinquennial inspection discovered that the roof of St. Mary’s tower is leaking and requires urgent attention.

The leaks are due to cracks in the lead guttering on the church tower roof, last recovered in 1910. We have the option to either repair the cracks or redesign the roof to prevent further cracks occurring.

We are currently in the process of assessing the costs involved for the two options and, once we have decided upon the best option, we will launch our fundraising campaign.

Recent Projects

The Priest's Room

The Priest’s room, above the main porch at St Mary’s, was no longer weather-proof.  Following a fundraising campaign by the Friends of St Mary’s, over £40,000 was raised.  This allowed us to fully renovate the room and create an intimate meeting space for community use.

Friends of St Mary's, Uffington

St Mary's, Uffington is a beautiful thirteenth-century church with much history and the Friends are a group committed to caring for the fabric of the building. They run regular fundraising events, please our calendar page for details. The most recent project raised £40,000 to weather-proof the porch and restore the Priest's Room for church and community use.

They are always keen to welcome both new members and new ideas, please contact us if you are interested in joining.
