GROUPS

As well as meeting for services in church or online, there are a number of other ways you can join in.

From gathering together in Shellingford wood with a packed lunch around a bonfire, through ringing bells, to enquiring about matters of life and faith with ‘Holy Moleys’ or our Home group; there is hopefully something on offer which appeals to you.

Home Group

An informal group meeting in people's homes on a Monday evening in term time. We explore our faith by looking at different books in the Bible. The group members choose what material they want to consider each week.

Please contact us if you would like to join. New members are made very welcome.

Muddy Church

Prayer, song and camp fires in Shellingford Wood.

Ideal for children and those young at heart. It is a relaxed gathering with plenty of space for running around and exploring the wood.

We meet intermittently, weather dependent, and all bring packed lunches to share. If you would like to join us, please check our calendar page or contact us to be added to the Muddy Church mailing list.

Mid-Week Mindfulness

We are holding a Mid-Week Mindfulness session at 11am each Wednesday, in St Mary's Church, Uffington. It is aimed at anyone who is now working from home and finding the work-home balance, within the same four walls, a bit monotonous.

It will be a half hour to re-charge during the working day, and we look at the benefits of meditation whilst enjoying the peace of an ancient building.

Churchyard Project

We meet every month in Uffington churchyard on a Saturday morning to help keep the churchyard cared for. We care for untended graves, have bonfires to tidy debris and enjoy some volunteering in the fresh air.

New recruits are always welcome.

Friends of St Mary's, Uffington

St Mary's, Uffington is a beautiful thirteenth-century church with much history and the Friends are a group committed to caring for the fabric of the building. They run regular fundraising events, please see our calendar page for details. The most recent project raised £40,000 to weather-proof the porch and restore the priest's room for church and community use.

They are always keen to welcome both new members and new ideas, please contact us if you are interested in joining

Confirmations

Confirmation groups are a way of deepening and discovering for yourself the Christian faith that was proclaimed at your Baptism. If you are interested in learning more about what it is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, a confirmation course might be for you. We discuss the key elements of the Christian way of life from what the Church means in history, to what we do in a church service and how we can live out the faith we proclaim. At the end of the course, most people will take part in a Confirmation service with the Bishop as a milestone on their faith journey.

The groups are normally small, relaxed and a mix of ages. People can come to Baptism and Confirmation at any age. If you haven’t been baptised (christened), you may wish to be baptised and confirmed at the same service.

Please do contact us to register an interest in joining our next group.

200 Club

The 200 Club is a benefice-wide fundraising initiative. Subscribers pay £50 for a numbered ticket to be entered into a draw four times a year. A proportion of the money goes to fund the prizes which range from £50 to £200. The bulk of the money raised goes to support the running costs of the four churches. This is an important source of income but there are also good prizes to be won!

If you would like to be added to a waiting list of subscribers, please do contact us

Flower Arranging

Each of our four churches has a small group of flower arrangers. They ensure that each church is decorated both for normal services and seasonal festivities. They are also happy to help with flowers arrangements for weddings and funerals, if required.

If you would like to help keep our churches decorated with flowers, please do contact us

Holey Moleys

We meet every other month on Saturday mornings in Uffington. Come and join us as we seek to rediscover the meaning of life, the universe and everything… with an open mind and a mug of tea.

Please contact us to receive notifications of when we are next meeting.
